Nationalism: An ideology based on the theory that all members should live under authority of their own independent nation state. Socialism: An ideology where all or most of the resources are owned by the government and where production and distribution are also controlled by the government. Stalinism: The method of rule by Joseph Stalin, based on the theory of permanent revolution Totalitarianism: A single-party monopoly involving police repression where everything is controlled by the state and objects to independence Marxist-Leninism Emphasises that a true communist society can only be formed by a violent overthrow of the Capitalist government and the establishment of a 'dictatorship of the proletariat' Maoism: Led by Mao Zedong from the 1920's until his death in 1976, based on a revolutionary outlook Leninism: Marxist principles expounded by Lenin, whether it corrupted Marxism or contributed to Marxism is debatable but led to a Communist Russia Capitalism: A free market economy with no government intervention, characterised by private ownership of production and resources Imperialism: The state policy of extending power especially by direct territorial invasion Communism: An ideology based on the idea of communal ownership of all property and a classless social structure Trotskyism: A Marxist ideology based on the theory of permanent revolution first expounded by Leon Trotsky Dictatorship

Capitalism is the principal in which profit and finance is the goal, in exchange for labour. It relies on a free market, and little government intervention other than to allow the process to continue. It is theoretically mutually beneficial. |
